Peabody Award
Found in: Awards and Prizes
The Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at UGA has administered the Peabody Awards program since it was established in 1940. It recognizes excellence in electronic media, including radio, television and cable. For external audiences use the formal name, the George Foster Peabody Award, on first reference; Peabody Award is acceptable on all references for internal audiences.
George Foster Peabody was a native of Columbus who gave generously to UGA in the early 20th century. While he gave no money to endow the Peabody Award in broadcasting, it is named in his honor. Peabody Hall is named for a different George Peabody.
