S. Ernest Vandiver Jr. Hall

Found in: Buildings and Locations

One of four apartment-style residence halls in East Campus Village, the six-story building is named for Vandiver, who was governor of Georgia from 1959 to 1963. Vandiver, who earned business and law degrees from UGA,  died in 2005. He will be remembered for his leadership in keeping UGA open in the face of efforts by other state leaders to close the university rather than accept racial integration in 1961.
